Women's Health

What you need to know

Welcome to the Women’s Health Section of World Rugby’s website which has been designed as:

  1. A hub for information relating to women’s health, and
  2. A home to connect individuals doing research in women’s rugby.

Within World Rugby’s commitment to the women’s game there is recognition of its rapid global growth and an acknowledgement that it should follow its own path, and not merely mimic what is done in the men’s game.

The content of this site has been developed and supported by World Rugby Women’s Player Welfare Working Group. This group consists of members across the globe who are involved in all levels of the women’s game and those doing research in the area.

The goals of the Women’s Player Welfare Working Groups are as follows:

  • To advise World Rugby sub-committees on matters relating to women’s player welfare issues. These will include the Women’s Advisory Committee, High Performance Rugby Committee, Community Rugby Committee & Regulations Committee.
  • To use Injury Surveillance studies and Game Analysis reports to track the evolution of the women’s game.
  • To consider research gaps and to identify priorities for future research funding.
  • To consider findings from existing research and to determine what impact this has on laws and/ or regulations of the game.
  • To identify elements of the game which might benefit from a women’s specific approach which differs from the men’s one e.g. Training & education, laws of the game, HIA etc.

The following women-specific health resources are designed to be easy to read and that can be used for both community and elite level players. These resources are based on current evidence and have been informed by experts in the field.

As the women’s game is developing at a rapid pace World Rugby is providing a Hub to connect researchers in the women’s game to others internationally who may be doing similar work or have interest in similar areas.
